It links the old centre with Magna Curia and the way up to the citadel, and is where the town goes for a walk.
About the place
In the 16th century the site held the fortress defences and later the gardens of Bethlen Castle. It was laid out as a public park in 1886–1893 and took its present form between the wars. In 1937 a statue of the Dacian king Decebalus, by Radu Moga, a teacher from Brad, was set up by the main entrance.
The park has a bandstand, playgrounds and outdoor fitness equipment. Magna Curia stands at its north-west edge, and at the south entrance is the house of Dr Petru Groza's family, designed in 1927–1929 by architect Horia Creangă. The walking trails up to the citadel start here.
Good to know
- Combine the park with the museum in Magna Curia, right at its edge.
- The walking trails to the citadel start here.
